Introduction
If there ever was a love song dedicated to websites it would be the mega hit by Bryan Adams, “Everything I Do (I Do it For You).”
Do you remember that song?
I won’t try to sing it for you you’ll be pleased to know.
It was released in 1991 and was number 1 across the world in at least 16 countries.
And it still holds the record for the most consecutive weeks at number 1 in the UK.
So, when I found out about free advertising on Google I burst into song!
Why was I so happy?
There’s a mantra that a click from a Google entity to your own website is worth its weight in gold.
You may have heard of Google My Business (GMB).
You may have set up a basic listing.
But are you using it to its full potential?
As with everything in life you can just do enough with your GMB listing (edit Feb 2023: Now Call Google Profile) for it to be seen and that’s fine.
Or you can go all out and pimp up your listing to its full potential.
If you choose the second option I can guarantee you’ll get more eyes on your business.
What can you advertise for free?
After you’ve perfected you’re listing there’s so much more you can do. You can:
- Post offers
- Post events
- Post adverts
- Post photos

In the meantime if you haven’t set up a basic listing go ahead and do that now. Here’s the set up link – Google My Business listing.
Just a quick tip – make sure that your business name, address and telephone number are displayed on GMB exactly as they are on your website.
Conclusion
I can’t guarantee that your GMB profile will be number 1 in the UK but you’ll certainly be towards the ‘top of the charts’ so to speak in your local area.
